Bryan: True. Can I take some water from your pitcher?

Armand: Certainly. Can I have that magazine for a while?

Bryan: I’m sorry, I haven’t finished reading it. I’ll give it to you as soon as I’ve finished.

Denying Permission :

  In the office:

Paul           : Terry, do you have a ruler?

Terry         : Yes.

Paul           : Can I borrow the ruler?

Terry         : Certainly. But don’t forget to return it to me.

Paul           : and, uhm…. Do you have a calculator, too?

Teryy         : yes.

Paul           : do you mind if I borrow it for a moment?

Terry         : I don’t think so. I’m using it at this moment.
